Update the location of an encounter

This flow shows how to record where the patient is inside the facility. The end state is an encounter with a current location, and a location history that shows every move.

Before you start​

  • You need a role with update encounter permission. Admin, Doctor, Nurse, and Facility Admin hold this permission.
  • The encounter is open.
  • The facility has locations and beds set up.

Steps​

1. Open the encounter​

In the facility menu, select Patients. Open the list for the encounter type you want. Open the encounter from the list.

2. Open the location panel​

In the Actions panel, select Update Location.

The location panel opens on the Assign Location tab. Select Location History to see the earlier locations of the patient.

3. Select a bed​

Move through the locations of the facility. Select the bed you want.

If the bed holds another patient, Care shows a warning. If the patient in the bed is discharged, confirm to continue. If the encounter in the bed is still active, select another bed.

4. Confirm the assignment​

Care records the new location and adds the earlier location to the history.

After you update the location​
